The Impending Demise of Feedburner and YOU

Some of you subscribe to my blog using Feedburner. However, Feedburner was purchased by Google some time ago, and if the merciless killing of Google Reader is any indication, it’s likely that Feedburner will suffer a similar fate someday soon.

So, to get out ahead of it, I’m posting this in the hopes that anyone currently getting regular email updates from my blog switch to a different service called Blogtrottr. It’s free, and I’ve even made it simpler for you by putting a simple link in this post. Just click the button below, enter your email address, select your update schedule from the drop-down menu on the right, and select the FEED ME button below.

See you starside!

Apologies for recent downtime

Recently, I made some changes to the way my blog was working in an attempt to speed up performance. Unfortunately, I didn’t properly test the issue afterward and only now realized (10 days later) that my blog has been completely inaccessible. Sorry about that. I’d like to make it up to all of you by giving you all free access to my blog for 30 days. :-D

Anyway, it should all be good now. Welcome back and enjoy your time here.

iWeb of Lies

So, I recently stopped subscribing to MobileMe because I’m broke. Don’t get me wrong, I love the service and think it’s incredible. But, given a choice between putting food on the table and syncing bookmarks, contacts, etc. between computers, I choose food. At least 73% of the time.

As a result, I recently re-published my iWeb that was hosted there over at this domain. It was relatively painless, thanks to iWeb 3’s inclusion of FTP support for publishing. I may actually start working on some additional iWeb stuff on top of my blog here in the future, as I’ve always enjoyed the way my sites turn out with the app.

Anyway, you can find it here.

The blog will likely stay up until I re-post them all on this blog for archival purposes. No point in having multiple blogs out there.

New site address

As you may have already discovered, the web address for my blog has changed to zepfhyr.com. I had to switch up the hosting a bit, and change the address as a result. Old links that pointed to the original site should still work for some time, but I encourage you to update your bookmarks and the like.

I should begin regular updates soon, once I’ve fixed all the images and links to point to their new locations.

An announcement

First, let me apologize for my hiatus. The reason for it is the very announcement I will be making during this post. Before that though, I bring you a warning.

It’s been said in the past that I talk far too much about the iPhone on my blog. Unfortunately, that’s because I’m very passionate about the device and the apps that are available for it. Those of you that don’t yet own one, I’m hoping my words will push you over the EDGE (see what I did there?).

I’m telling you this, because you’re about to be bombarded with a lot of technical info, some about the iPhone, some about various other geek-related things. But before I do that, I wanted to make an announcement.

InkKC influx

I’ve been getting quite a few visitors from my interview over at InkKC the last couple days, so I just wanted to put a note up here for those of you that are visiting from there.

First off, thanks for stopping by my little place on the Interwebs. Have a nice stay, but please don’t break anything.

If you’re looking for iPhone app reviews and news, you can find all of them by clicking on the iPhone category to the right. Feel free to browse, leave a few comments, or even shoot me a message if there’s an app you’d like to hear about but don’t see on here yet. I’ll be glad to give you my opinion, or maybe even write up a post all about it if I feel I can be informative enough.

That said, come back soon.

Delicious Library updated and added to links section

I spent the last couple days updating my Delicious Library with the stuff that I got for Christmas and getting it published online. So here’s a link to check out my collection. I’ve also added it to the links section on the right, so feel free to come back and check it out later. I took the time to add all the board games I could find in the house to the Toys section and even got some entries into the Gadgets section, as well. If you don’t know what Delicious Library is, you need to check out their web site.

"Mr. Destructoid" and "Pew Pew Pew" ringtones

Over at Destructoid, the user Craineum created an incredible Mega Man costume (click here for adorable video) for his son for Halloween. It was so awesome that he managed to get an article in Popular Mechanics. He was recently a guest on Retroforce GO! and his son said two of the most adorable things I have ever heard in my entire life. As a tribute to his awesomeness and his son’s adorableness, I’ve created two ringtones for those that can’t live without a little cute in their lives.

Oh, dear ever-handsome Elf-gods…

…are we actually stupid enough to have voted on nothing at all?

The above comic made me laugh out loud. But it’s the one below this that is most important. It seems that FedEx/Kinkos is now charging you to open your files before printing them. Individually. Not even joking.

The first comic is 8-bit Theater. I’ve been following it for several years and it may be the only funniest Final Fantasy-based sprite comic I’ve ever seen. The other is called HijiNKS Ensue. I’ve only been following it since last spring. Yes, I’m aware that they capitalize their name weird. No, I’ve never bothered to figure out why.

Also, I’ve added a favicon to my site. I did not create it, but found it over at favicon.cc. If you actually know what it is, you get extra-special bonus points.

New site design

I put a new theme up on my site called Aerodrome. I like it a lot and think it fits well with the name of the blog. Let me know what you think about it. Please take a look around and let me know if there’s anything that doesn’t look right or feels out of place. I may not be the best judge of everything myself. Also, you’ll see that there are ads on the site now. I tried to keep them to a minimum, but since I’m doing this blog in my spare time, and it costs money to host, I figured the best way to recover some of those costs were to put some small, (fairly) unobtrusive ads. If you have feedback about the ads, please leave that as well.
