My parents didn&#8217;t let us watch true scary movies growing up, so aside from a brief 30-minute experience with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B00005LC4Q\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=zephoftheanem-20&amp;camp=0&amp;creative=0&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;creativeASIN=B00005LC4Q&amp;adid=02VTWMD0P9XTG1M78JPB&amp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Halloween II<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/click.linksynergy.com\/fs-bin\/stat?id=boISyYkY0ls&amp;offerid=146261&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0&amp;tmpid=1826&amp;RD_PARM1=http%253A%252F%252Fitunes.apple.com%252Fus%252Fmovie%252Fhalloween-ii-unrated%252Fid348357931%253Fuo%253D4%2526partnerId%253D30\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">iTunes<\/a>) (where Michael Myers drowns the nurse in a boiling hot tub), <em>Scream<\/em> was it. Coincidentally, it also coincides with my first non-public\u00c2\u00a0make-out\u00c2\u00a0session. Don&#8217;t tell my wife.<\/p>\n<p>The best parts of this movie are all the little details they&#8217;ve added for horror movie fans: the Freddy Krueger look-a-like janitor, the oft-repeated conversations and &#8220;Rules&#8221; about scary movies, and especially the trivia game in the opening scene. I also loved the way it told you the &#8220;Rules&#8221; for surviving a scary movie and then violated every single one of them. The best thing about <em>Scream<\/em>, of course, was the way it redefined the genre, adding a sense of humor that was often missing from horror movies at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Also, I didn&#8217;t have time to watch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B004P7CN7W\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=zephoftheanem-20&amp;camp=0&amp;creative=0&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;creativeASIN=B004P7CN7W&amp;adid=0HNHN1HP2C9ZC4J5C9XT&amp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Faculty<\/a> today, so I&#8217;m gonna have to move it to another day. Maybe the same day I watch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B000QQJ3Q0\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=zephoftheanem-20&amp;camp=0&amp;creative=0&amp;linkCode=as1&amp;creativeASIN=B000QQJ3Q0&amp;adid=029M4S5CW5HNBA10NFXG&amp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Invasion of the Body Snatchers<\/a>, as it&#8217;s essentially the same movie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me.&#8221; Scream\u00c2\u00a0was one of my first exposures to the slasher genre.
