They were sometimes represented as mere\u00c2\u00a0gusts of wind, at other times were personified as\u00c2\u00a0wingedmen, and at still other times were depicted as\u00c2\u00a0horses\u00c2\u00a0kept in the stables of the storm god\u00c2\u00a0Aeolus, who provided\u00c2\u00a0Odysseus\u00c2\u00a0with the Anemoi in the\u00c2\u00a0<em>Odyssey<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0Astraeus, the astrological deity sometimes associated with\u00c2\u00a0Aeolus, and\u00c2\u00a0Eos, the goddess of the\u00c2\u00a0dawn, were the parents of the Anemoi, according to the\u00c2\u00a0Greek\u00c2\u00a0poet\u00c2\u00a0Hesiod.<\/p>\n<p>Of the four chief Anemoi,\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Boreas<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0was the north wind and bringer of cold winter air,\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Notus<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0was the south wind and bringer of the storms of late summer and autumn, and\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Zephyrus<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0was the west wind and bringer of light spring and early summer breezes;\u00c2\u00a0<strong>Eurus<\/strong>, the east wind, was not associated with any of the three\u00c2\u00a0Greek seasons, and is the only one of these four Anemoi not mentioned in Hesiod&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0<em>Theogony<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0or in the\u00c2\u00a0Orphic Hymns.
