Smule Ocarina song fingerings

UPDATE (2013/04/03): All of the fingerings have been updated so that links to them work once again. Thanks again for visiting, and if you have time, please check out some of my other posts about iOS apps, video games, or even creative writing. Or, if you like what you see, you can subscribe to my blog by clicking the Subscribe button on the top of the sidebar to the right.

I’m collecting the various links to the Online Score Generator for the Smule Ocarina iPhone app into one post so that when I update it, people don’t have to look through the review to find them. Some of these I made entirely on my own, and others I modified based on ones I found at the Smule Ocarina forums.

I’ve also included a key for how I’ve interpreted the icons for the score generator at the bottom of the post.

The Legendary Hero – The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

Zelda’s Lullaby – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Serenade of Water – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Jurassic Park Theme

Star Wars Theme

Hobbiton Theme - The Lord of the Rings

Title Theme – The Legend of Zelda

Epona’s Song – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Prelude of Light – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Song of Storms – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Song of Time – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Score Generator guide:

I skipped 1-16, as they’re obviously just the fingerings, but these 5 are a little different. This is my suggestion for following these symbols.

 - 17: Hold note for about one count and then move right into the next note.

 - 18: Hold note for about one count and then move into the next hold.

 - 19: Hold note for about one count and let fade out, should be followed by 21.

 - 20: Quick breath, then right in to the next note.

 - 21: Breathe, this is your “free” space.

No problem, I’m glad you liked it! It was one of the more fun ones to notate.

Hi Zeph, thanks for the transcriptions and the hints on the notation. Great work!

How do you decide which mode to use (I notice that you tend to switch between Ionian and Zelderian) when doing your transcriptions? Is it simply not possible to play some tunes in certain modes, or do you just pick a mode and work out the transcription for that mode?

    Keep it up! Awesome!

It is not possible to play certain songs in certain modes. Ionian is essentially “Do, Re, Mi, etc.” Zeldarian, on the other hand, is designed to mimic the notes used to play songs from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. There’s a really interesting article I found about the key that was used to compose the game, but I can’t remember the Google search terms I used to find it.

I’ve been looking at some of the sheet musics, and there’s something a bout 6,8,9, and 0. i look at it, and try it out, but it doesn’t sound anything like it!!!! when i see something like 89, I hold down both keys on the left, then my right finger plays the one closer to me. is that how it’s supposed to be? or am I doing it wrong? ALSO, i know im doing this on some random thing.

You might not be in the correct “mode”. Click on the little icon in the bottom-center of the screen and adjust the mode to match the one I’ve specified on my sheet music. Otherwise, many of the songs will play the wrong note, even though the fingerings are correct.

If this doesn’t correct the issue, you’re welcome to leave additional comments, or follow the link to the Smule forums and look for more info there.

19: Hold note for about one count and let fade out, should be followed by 21. What how do you go to next note without making a wired noise.

18: I use this symbol only when there are more than one hold in a row. Each of these symbols is held for 1 count, so if there are 3 in a row, you’d hold the note before the first hold (18) for 3 counts.

19: Same as above, but does not have another hold after it, therefore after the count you stop blowing and take a breath (as long as a 21 is after this symbol).

Zelda – Song of Time: Yeah, that was the first one I ever did and hadn’t developed the fingering rules at that time. One day I hope to take the time to re-transcribe it and add a few more.

    A# Zeldarian

You can look in the top-right corner of any posting to find what settings it uses, if you have questions about any others.
